Bianca’s Story

Education My Kids Deserve

In 2011, Bianca hit rock bottom. As a single mother with three children, she struggled financially. Then the unthinkable happened: Bianca and her children ended up homeless and came to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission’s Joy House.

Over the next several months, Bianca worked hard to get back on her feet. While at Joy House, in addition to learning about God’s love for her, she learned about money management, parenting, healthy relationships and healthy living.

She also learned about Cross Trainers Academy. Her children were still too young to attend school, but she knew immediately where she wanted to enroll her kids one day. Today, all three of her children — ages 5 to 7 — attend our school. “When I toured Cross Trainers for the first time and met the staff and teachers, I knew my kids would get the education they deserve,” she says.

Bianca is particularly impressed with the academic quality and individual attention her children receive at CTA. “My kids are doing really good in school,” she says. My daughter is already so advanced in math, she’s teaching me things! They’re also getting the academic tools and habits they need to excel for a lifetime. And whenever they’re struggling in a subject, their teachers sit down with them one-on-one and give them individualized help. That’s made a big difference.”

It’s not just about academics, however. Bianca also appreciates that her children are getting the spiritual foundation they need. “I like the fact that Cross Trainers is a Christian-based school,” she explains. A spiritual education is important if kids are going to be well-rounded. My kids are learning the Bible, and their teachers are helping them understand who God created them to be and what they can be in the future.”

Bianca understands that Cross Trainers Academy is more than a school. It’s a community of people all working together to improve the lives of her children, as well as the lives of underprivileged children in the surrounding community. “The teachers aren’t just teachers, they care about me and they care about our lives outside of the school.”
