Dale’s Story
"You don’t have to worry about a place to live. You don’t have to worry about food to eat. They take care of you."
“I’d never been to Milwaukee except for when I was born here.”
Life has taken Dale all around the country in his 61 years — from serving in the military to working in a fabrication shop in Elkhart, Indiana — but it was only two years ago that he hopped on his bicycle and rode over 150 miles to his hometown of Milwaukee.
“I was what you would call a functioning alcoholic. I always had a job, always had a home. I went on with my life like that for years and years. Until one day, I just couldn’t function anymore. I realized that the alcohol was killing me … and I didn’t want to die.”
Dale knew he was in trouble — and, he didn’t know why, but God had put it on his heart to return to Milwaukee. Once he arrived, he spent five days in a hospital detoxing before healthcare workers directed him to MRM for long-term healing.
He embraced the opportunity. “The most helpful thing I found with the program is the focus they allow you to have on your recovery,” Dale said. “You don’t have to worry about a place to live. You don’t have to worry about food to eat. They take care of you with your clothing, your food, your health.”
With his physical needs met, Dale was eager to begin his spiritual recovery. He poured himself into the Bible, growing in faith and rebuilding his life free from alcohol. “I was sick and tired of living that life … I wanted to have the life that I had left behind when I wasn’t a drinker or anything like that, when I was raising my children. I was a sober man and had a clear mind.”
Today, Dale is back on his feet, living independently and feeling so grateful to God and generous people like you who made his healing journey possible. He said that without MRM, he might not be alive today. Thanks to you, he has new hope and a bright future!
